Frequently asked questions
Considering the trip or getting ready to join us? Select a question for the answer.
What do I book first?
Start with Melinda at With Heart Travel to reserve your cabin with our group. Then register with Dulcimer Adventures as a player or companion. If you’ve already booked elsewhere, ask Melinda about joining our group before registering.
What does the music program cost, and when do I pay?
A player pays $549: $100 nonrefundable registration plus $449 tuition. You can pay tuition at the same time or return to pay it by June 1, 2027. Cruise fare and travel costs are separate and paid through your cruise arrangements. See Prices and Registration for full details.
Can a spouse or friend come without taking workshops?
Yes. A companion pays the $100 nonrefundable registration fee and can join our group activities, jams and concert. Companion registration does not include workshops.
Can I register several people together?
Please complete one order per traveler, including companions, so each person’s information stays with the correct registration. A player can put their own $100 registration and $449 tuition in the same cart. Use the same traveler’s name and email address on both forms. Then start a separate order for the next person.
I filled out the registration form. Am I finished?
After completing the form, continue to your cart and finish checkout. Filling in the form alone does not complete payment. Look for your order confirmation. If you are unsure whether payment went through, contact the Dulcimer Adventures team before placing another order. Include the traveler’s name and any order number you received.
Is this for beginners? Is there hammered dulcimer instruction?
The workshops focus on mountain dulcimer, with classes planned for beginner, intermediate and upper-level players. If you are unsure which level fits, contact the Dulcimer Adventures team. Hammered dulcimer workshops are not part of the current program.
How much instruction is included, and when do I choose workshops?
The plan includes eight 75-minute workshop sessions per player, for 10 hours of classroom instruction. There are three choices during each session, with 24 offerings across Stephen, Rob and Thomasina. Workshop titles, descriptions, and the daily timetable are coming soon; you do not need to choose individual classes when you pay your Dulcimer Adventures registration. We also plan six evening jams, mostly led by the instructors, plus a concert. See Music for the current plan.
How should I prepare my workshop materials?
When workshop materials become available, download them before you travel and print any pages you want to use on paper. Save digital copies on your device so you can open them without an internet connection. If a materials link does not work or a handout appears to be missing, contact the Dulcimer Adventures team before departure.
How can I make sure I receive announcements?
Join our mailing list while you are considering the trip. Even if you think you are already on it, sign up again to make sure we have your current email address. Check your spam or junk folder too. If you have registered but are missing trip emails, contact dulcimeradventuresinfo@gmail.com with the traveler’s name and the email address used to register.
How do I travel with my dulcimer?
Before booking flights, check your airline’s musical-instrument policy and compare your case dimensions with its baggage requirements. Ask Melinda about the arrangements for bringing instruments aboard the cruise.
Who helps with cabins, flights, hotels, excursions or package inclusions?
Melinda handles cruise reservations and travel coordination. Contact her about cabin availability, payments to the cruise line, flights, hotels, transfers, excursions, gratuities and the inclusions in your particular booking. Visit her cruise page, email melinda@withhearttravel.com, or call 310-903-5107. For registration, tuition, workshops or materials, contact the Dulcimer Adventures team.
What if I need to cancel or transfer my registration?
The $100 registration fee is nonrefundable. Player tuition refund requests received by June 1, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern are eligible for a refund less 8%; tuition becomes nonrefundable June 2. If you’d like someone else to take your place, contact us to discuss your options. Read the full cancellation details on Prices and Registration before paying. Your cruise reservation has its own separate cancellation and payment terms.
